Mumbai: Interface Business Solutions today announced that Tata DOCOMO is the first brand in India to start advertising on Twitter.

Twitter had launched its advertising products some time back. However the sales team at Twitter has largely been concentrating on prospective clients in the US. A senior Twitter representative confirmed to Interface “Currently my group is focused on working with the largest Fortune 1000 brands globally. We also have a team who works to bring on qualified SMBs to our closed beta”.

However many brands in other parts of the world including India were eager to try the advertising platform. One can see the kind of phenomenal growth some of the Indian brand pages on Facebook has seen with Brands like MTV India, Tata DOCOMO featuring in the top hundred global Facebook brand pages. The same growth has not been seen for many brands on Twitter, largely due to the absence of any means to growth the follower community through paid advertising.

However, that is now going to change with @tatadocomo becoming the first Indian brand (still to be confirmed officially by Twitter) to actively start twitter advertising.

Currently @tatadocomo has gained more than 5,000 followers in the last week compared to the two years it took to gain 16,000 followers.
