    Published on June 16, 2018

Ottawa :The Government of Canada reiterates its commitment to the community of La Romaine and to the safe supply of goods to the La Romaine wharf.

Following the results of an inspection conducted by Public Services and Procurement Canada, Transport Canada had to issue certain restrictions on navigation and operations at the La Romaine wharf to ensure the safety of passengers and workers.

Since the issuance of the restrictions, Government of Canada remains in regular contact with Relais Nordik and the Société des Traversiers du Québec, in order to minimize the impact on the community’s supply, while ensuring safety. Relais Nordik has so far been able to unload passengers and essential goods.

The federal government is also in contact with Le groupe Harnois, which handles the delivery of petroleum products in order to ensure the delivery of petroleum products before the reserves are exhausted.

Transport Canada has also assigned additional staff to ensure that passengers and workers are not in the wharf area that is closed to traffic during Relais Nordik’s operations.

The Government of Canada is working with all parties involved to ensure that repairs are done quickly. The contractor who will be in charge of the repairs is currently taking the necessary steps to start the work as soon as possible.
