  • TRAI recommends setting up an independent agency to control National Broadband Plan

    Telecom regulatory Authority of India, TRAI, has recommended for setting up of an independent agency, National Optic Fibre Agency, NOFA, for executing the National Broadband Plan, NBP.

    In its report submitted to the Telecommunication Ministry, the regulator urged the Department of Telecom to ensure that optic fibre network should be extended to all habitations that have a population of more than 500 people.

    Presently state owned BSNL is looking after the expansion work of Broadband Service in the country.

    Telecom Department had sought views from TRAI on the proposals for providing broadband connectivity to all Gram Panchayats.
