  • TRIPADVISOR ACHIEVES THE 50MM REVIEWS AND OPINIONS MILESTONE

    Published on July 22, 2011

New Delhi: Celebrating the success of its growing popularity across the world and in India, TripAdvisor®, the world’s largest travel site*today announced the fantastic achievement of reaching 50MM reviews and opinions.  The site which was launched in February 2000 by Co-Founder and CEO Stephen Kaufer is the ultimate destination for travel enthusiasts who completely rely on the site’s reviews to plan their trips.

In January 2005, TripAdvisor reached one million published reviews and opinions then grew to 10 million in June 2007, 25 million in July 2009 and now features 50 million reviews and opinions— more user-generated content than any other travel site.  This is a true testimony to the site’s recognition and clearly reflects the paradigm shift in the behavior of today’s travellers who now believe in proper planning before any trip.

“When we first launched TripAdvisor we knew there would be an appetite among travellers for honest reviews written by real people. Eleven years later, we are tremendously proud to have reached 50 million reviews and opinions which help over 40 million travellers a month around the world plan and experience the perfect trip,” said Steve Kaufer, founder and CEO of TripAdvisor.

“TripAdvisor has tremendous user loyalty and this is largely due to the freshness of content added to the site every day by our passionate community,” said Kaufer. “We would like to thank the millions of reviewers who have contributed to making TripAdvisor the world’s largest and most relevant travel planning tool.”

On this proud moment Nikhil Ganju, Country Manager TripAdvisor (India) commented,“Our success in India as well is attributed to our Indian traveller community who are the real heroes of TripAdvisor. Since our launch, over two years back the site has received phenomenal response from Indian travellers whose contributions have propelled our growth at an incredible pace.”

Though TripAdvisor. In has been around in India only for a little over 2 years, Indian users have posted hundreds of thousands of reviews leading to the site becoming the authoritative source of reviews on over 10,000 hotels across the length and breadth of the country. The site has its share of prolific members, some of whom have made more than 2500 contributions!

TripAdvisor. In already attracts more than 3 million unique Indian visitors a month. Its popularity as one of the top travel sites in India is owing to its rich content on Indian destinations and hotels, coupled with the growing trend of Indians’ planning their trips based on the experiences of other travellers.
