  • Vice President in Tajikistan on a four-day visit

    VPVice-President Mohd. Hamid Ansari on Sunday arrived in Tajikistan on a four -day official visit aimed at boosting bilateral ties in multiple sectors, including counter-terrorism.

    On his arrival in the Tajikistan capital Dushanbe, the Vice President was received by Tajikistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Davlatov Matlubkhon Sultonovich.

    Ansari is accompanied by a high level delegation comprising Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Tariq Anwar and four Members of Parliament.

    The Vice President will hold high-level talks with Tajikistan’s President, Emomali Rahmon and other top leaders. The issue of terrorism emanating from Pakistan and Afghanistan will figure during the discussions.

    Ansari’s visit is a part of India’s connect Central Asia policy, unveiled last year, aimed at increasing Political, Economic and people-to-people engagement with Central Asian nations like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. This is the first ever visit by an Indian Vice-President to Tajikistan.

    Interacting with the media persons on board his special aircraft, the Vice President said that India is having very good relations with Tajikistan since its independence in 1991.

    After arriving in Dushanbe, the Vice President visited the National Museum of Antiquities in the city.
