  • Wine Evening with Donnafugata hosted by Aspri Spirits

    Published on November 21, 2018

Aspri Spirits, India’s leading distributor of premium wines and spirits, presented a special wine evening to bring together wine lovers and connoisseurs at FIO – Cookhouse and Bar, Nehru Place, Delhi. The timeless, suave & global aesthetic of the venue created an ethereal ethos that was perfect to host the guests for an exclusive four course dinner with Donnafugata wines.

The wines showcased for the evening were Donnafugata Sedara and Anthilia, which are perfect icons of wines from Sicily and Donnafugata as a brand, also revolutionized the style and the perception of Sicilian wine in the world.

Having amassed 160 years’ worth of experience over 5 generations, Donnafugata wines are a passionate exploration of Sicily’s sensorial universe. The name Donnafugata means ‘woman in flight’ and refers to Queen Maria Carolina of Bourbon, who in the early 1800s, sought refuge in Sicily, where Donnafugata vineyards stand today.

Leading light of the Sicilian fine wine movement, Donnafugata has forged a powerful international reputation, crafting exciting wines, distinguished by their complexity and finesse, representing both the history and innovation of Sicily.

Sicily is Italy’s southernmost region, and the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. For more than 2500 years the island has been a significant center of Mediterranean wine, although the reputation and style of its wines has changed significantly over that time. Once famous for sweet Muscat, and later fortified Marsala, the island’s best-known wines today are its dry table wines made from indigenous grapes like Nero d’Avola & Cattarato. Blessed with consistently bright sunshine and reliably moderate rainfall, Sicily’s classic Mediterranean climate is ideally suited to the production of wine grapes.

Ms ELENA BORTOLETTO, a Sicilian Sommelier from Donnafugata offered the guests a historic and enthralling experience of Donnafugata’s wines. She took the audience through the exciting journey of the brand by presenting the brand’s history, the process of making wines, details on their best wines and much more.
