  • ‘Civil war in Libya if NTC resigned’

    Published on January 24, 2012

In Libya, the Chairman of the ruling NTC, Mustafa Abdul Jalil warned that the nation would fall into a civil war if the ruling National Transitional Council resigned.

The remarks came in the backdrop of angry mobs attacking the NTC headquarters in Benghazi. The NTC Deputy Abdel Hafiz Ghoga was forced to resign.

In an interview to a Libyan TV Station, the Libyan leader said some hidden hands were pushing the demonstrators. Benghazi protesters rampaged through the NTC’s offices, saying it was a non-transparent body.

They accused the NTC of marginalizing some wounded veterans of the uprising that toppled Gaddafi in favor of people who were previously loyal to the slain dictator. The NTC Chairman said despite the protests he was optimistic about the future of Libya.
