In Indonesia, at least eleven people were killed when a fire broke out on a ferry travelling between the islands of Java and Sumatra. The transport ministry said that the ferry caught fire in the Sunda Strait, about three kilometres from the port of Merak at the westernmost tip of Java today. They said that four hundred twenty seven survived. It is not known how many people are missing.
