  • 18 year old youth from Guntur gets a new lease of life from a 27 year old Brain Dead Patient

    Bengaluru : 18 year old student from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh gets a new lease of life as he undergoes a heart transplant at M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre – a unit managed by Narayana Health. The donor who is a 27 year old youth from Tamilnadu was admitted at Victoria Hospital following an accident on 15th August 2018. Doctors at Victoria Hospital -PMSSY declared him ‘Brain Dead’ and his wife consented for organ donation.

    The heart was retrieved at PMSSY (Victoria Hospital), and was transported to M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre, Mattikere with the help of a green corridor. The distance of 8.2kms was covered in a span of 13 minutes.

    The recipient is an 18 year old student hailing from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh who was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). He was on medical management at M S Narayana Heart Centre since the last six months and later on advised to undergo a heart transplant. He registered himself with Jeevasarthakate (previously known as ZCCK) in the month of May 2018 and was awaiting for the matching donor’s heart.

    The retrieval and transplant of the heart was carried out by the team of doctors including Dr. Nagamalesh. U.M, Senior Consultant Heart Failure & Transplant, M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre, Dr. Ravi Shankar Shetty, Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic & Heart Transplant Surgeon, M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre,  Dr. Julius Punnen, Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, Narayana Health City,  Dr. Guru Police Patil Anaesthetist, Dr. Prashanth Ramamurthy, Consultant Cardiac Anaesthetist, M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre and team.
