  • Govt. will consult all parties before deciding on Telangana issue: Chidambaram

    The Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram has said that the government will consult all political parties before taking any appropriate decision on the Telangana issue. A meeting of political parties is being convened on the 6th of next month to discuss the Srikrishna Committee report on Telangana and the letters to this effect are being sent today itself.

    The report will be made public on 6th January after the discussions with the political parties are over. In a statement issued to the press today, after he received the report from the Chairman of the Srikrishana Committee Justice B N Srikrishana , Mr. Chidambaram said that the government will consider the report and share it with the Ministries and Departments concerned.

    Expressing gratitude to the committee for holding holistic discussions on the issue with all stakeholders, the Home Minister appealed the media to communicate the contents of the report in a fair, impartial and balanced way and promote sober and mature debate.

    Speaking to reporters after submitting the report, the member of the panel and former home secretary V K Duggal said that report will show the way forward on approaching the contentious demand for a separate statehood issue in Andhra Pradesh.

    The committee was constituted on February 3 and visited Andhra Pradesh 28 times during the past 11 months. It also heard all political parties in the state and received over 1.25 lakh representations from different stakeholders. The committee had on Tuesday said its report will seek to evoke maximum satisfaction to largest number of people.

    Meanwhile, the Home Minister has reassured the people of Andrea Pradesh that the deployment of the security forces is purely a precautionary measure and they will remain in force headquarters or police stations as a reserve force. He also said that he has faith in the wisdom of the people of Andhra Pradesh and expressed confidence that the present atmosphere of peace and harmony will continue to prevail.
