New Delhi: During Joy of Giving Week #DaanUtsav2018 , four organisations have come forward to support the cause of treating children suffering with CHD. CHD, the most common congenital anomaly in newborn babies, refers to the structural heart defects during birth of a child.

Under this unique partnership, children from the Raigad district of Maharashtra will be screened for CHD and supported for their medical surgeries. Surgeries would take place in Wockhardt Hospital, globally renowned for their medical facilities and service.

Oracle began supporting heart surgeries for under-privileged children suffering from CHD throughout India in the Spring of this year. Under the Project Little Hearts, Oracle has taken a holistic approach to support surgeries with a dedicated grant of USD 100,000, plus awareness-raising activities to be planned over the course of the year.

Under the same project, Genesis Foundation struck a unique partnership with Swades Foundation to treat the children suffering from CHD in Raigad. These two organisations both believe in working at and from the grassroots level, which ensures that the work does not end at providing monetary aid but reaches the ones who need it.

Speaking about Project Little Hearts, Colleen Cassity, Executive Director, Oracle Corporate Citizenship, said, “Without treatment, CHD can be lethal. Funding care and treatment for children with CHD is one way that Oracle helps to strengthen communities, which is a focus of our philanthropy, along with advancing education and protecting the environment. We support Genesis Foundation and Project Little Hearts because we want all children to grow into healthy adults, leading happy and productive lives.”

Sharing their views on the collaboration, Prema and Jyoti Sagar, Founder Trustees, Genesis Foundation, said, “A child suffering from CHD waits for that one surgery that could change his life. There are over 2 lakh children born with CHD in the country. That implies over 2 lakh opportunities for organisations like ours to save lives.  When we see other harbingers of change like us, we feel like those organisations are our partners working in other spheres. Owing to the increase burden of CHD in the country, it becomes the responsibility of the one with the repository of the resources to do their part. It thus becomes the need to bridge the gap between the corporates of the world and the ones devoid of the resources.

Genesis Foundation and Swades Foundation are the two units of change that work towards a targeted approach in their own sphere.  By recognizing and reaching out to each other, they have decided to increase their impact considerably. They will be using each other’s expertise in their respective areas to swiftly reach their goal of a transformed India.
