    Guwahati : North East Students’ Organisation (NESO)has called for a state-wide called An 11-hour Northeast bandh Shops,he entire region of Northeast India is observing an 11-hr shut down on Tuesday to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. The shutdown began from 5am and will go on till 4 pm today. markets, financial institutions kept their shutters down, educational institutions, private offices remained closed and private vehicles, including long-distance buses, kept off roads .An 11-hour Northeast bandh called by a number of students’ organisations and political parties on Tuesday, to protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, began amid tight security.Several students’ bodies of the region have decided to observe the ”bandh” in support of the call given by the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), an umbrella organisation of students’ unions, of which the AASU is a constituent.espite the Meghalaya Government issuing a warning against employees who will remain absent from work on the day of the band, the state wore a deserted look with scanty populace in the streets.     Stray instances of vandalism including burning of tyres and damaged vehicles were reported from Shillong’s Mawprem area.Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said that the Cabinet had already come out with an official resolution to oppose the move by the BJP led NDA to bring an amendment to the Citizenship Bill. “There is no confusion about our stand on this issue.

    In Mizoram, chief minister Zoramthanga on Monday said the state government is strongly against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, and extended support to Tuesday’s bandh in the Northeast called by the North East Students’ Organisation (Neso) in protest against the Centre’s bid to pass the bill in Parliament.n Tripura, head of the erstwhile Royal Family of Tripura and Working President of the Tripura Congress Pradyot Manikya Debbarma has welcomed the decision of the AGP on the issue of the citizenship amendment bill where the regional party from Assam withdrew their support to the BJP after the saffron party decided to bring in the controversial Citizenship Amendment bill in the Parliament.

    In Arunachal Pradesh, the bandh has been supported by the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) among other organizations. Rallying behind the NESO, AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai had informed that the AAPSU would enforce the 11-hour bandh across the state through its federating units.The streets of Nagaland also wore a scant look with volunteers of Naga students as well as Non Naga students helping to enforce the bandh among others.

    In Manipur too, the All Manipur Student’s Union (AMSU) had announced that it will enforce the 11-hour Northeast bandh in the state, called by the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) in protest against the proposed move of the Union Government to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.Meanwhile, member organisations of the NESO in other states such as Mizo Zirlai Pawal (MZP), All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), Khasi Students Union (KSU), Garo Students Union (GSU), Naga Students” Federation (NSF), All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) and Twipra Students Federation (TSF) are also supporting the bandh.The northeast 11-hour bandh has left its mark on Manipur as well and normal life has been disrupted as business establishments remained shut and public transport was off streets.
