  • CM lays foundation stone for North East Military School in Bijni

    Kokrajhar : Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today laid the foundation stone of permanent campus of the North East Military School to be set up at Hawargaon-Charagaon in Chirang district.

    The North East Military School, Bijni will be the first ever military school in North East. The English medium fully residential school is third of its kind in the country after Nagpur and Nasik. The school is affiliated to Bhonsala Military School, Nagpur and will be developed on PPP mode.

    BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Minister for development of WPT&BC Chandan Brahma, MLAs Kamalsing Narzary, Thaneswar Basumatary, Moneswar Brahma, Prasanta Phukan, functionaries of the school and a host of other dignitaries were also present in the inaugural ceremony.

    In his speech chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that North East Military School, Bijni will go a long way in rekindling patriotic fervour of the young students who in turn will be able to render their services for the nation.

    Allaying fear that has been hovering around the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, Sonowal said that his government is duty bound to lend dignity to all people living across 33 districts of the state. He reiterated his commitment to work for safeguarding the constitutional rights of the people of Assam and appealed AASU and other intelligentsia to extend their cooperation to enable the government to ensure protection of the rights of indigenous people of Assam as per the tenets of Assam Accord.

    Sonowal said that the present State government is committed to safeguard Jati, Mati and Bheti of the indigenous people of the state and the government will never take a back step in protecting their interests.

    The Chief Minister said that the present State government has come to power with the mandate of the people of Assam and his government will do everything to promote and protect the interests of the people of the state.

    BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary while speaking on the occasion lauded the management for choosing an area within BTAD for setting up the school. He also said under the present government all ethnic communities are living peacefully in the state and granting of ST status will not create any discord among the tribes of the state. He also maintained that ST status to six communities will be given without disturbing the rights and privileges of the existing people belonging to ST category.

    Minister for development of WPT&BC Chandan Brahma also spoke on the occasion.
