    Guwahati : The four northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura have made presentations before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Constitution 125th Amendment Bill, 2019.The bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on 6 February by the then Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The Bill seeks to amend the provisions relating to the Finance Commission and the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. The Sixth Schedule deals with the administration of tribal areas in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.Official sources said here that the Chief Secretaries of the four states, including Home Ministry officials, made their presentation before the parliamentary panel, headed by Congress MP Anand Sharma.The committee heard the Chief Secretary and representatives of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura about the Constitution (125th Amendment) Bill, 2019. Senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs were also present in the meeting. The Bill seeks devaluation of powers to the Sixth Schedule Autonomous Councils of these states.
