    Published on October 14, 2019

Postpaid mobile services were restored in the remaining areas of Jammu and Kashmir this afternoon. The announcement to this effect had been made by the Jammu & Kashmir administration on Saturday in the wake of lifting of August 2nd tourist advisory, opening the valley for tourists.

However, subscribers will have to wait for some more time for Internet services to resume in the Valley. The valley has nearly 66 lakh mobile subscribers. Partial landline telephony resumed in the valley on 17th August and by 4th September all landlines were made functional. AIR correspondent reports that with the restoration of post paid mobile services of BSNL and other private telecom service providers, lakhs of subscribers will have now connectivity in Kashmir Valley.

In addition, tourists will be able to visit the Valley without being handicapped by the lack of phone connectivity and students, businessmen, transporters and contractors will have connectivity to attend to their normal life activities.  Meanwhile, the police and security forces deployed in the region are taking all precautionary measures in view of the restoration of mobile services.

According to Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Dilbagh Singh, all precautions will be taken to ensure that law and order is not disturbed in the Valley. According to sources, there will be strict monitoring on hate mongers and deployment of extra forces will be done at strategic locations. Police will also keep an eye on fake news and rumours. Certain restrictions were imposed in Jammu and Kashmir as a precautionary measure after the abrogation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir on August 5th.
