  • Assam DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta visits Assam-Bengal border to take stock of the present law and order situation

    Kokrajhar: Assam Director General of Police, Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta Wednesday visited Assam-West Bengal inter-state border Srirampur in Kokrajhar to take stock of the present law and order situation prevailing in the border area due to COVID19.

    The senior police official visited the COVID19 scanning centers for the passengers travelling through the border area.

    ‘In taking importance of the Srirampur inter-state border gate here, IPS, IAS, ACS,  APS, senior officials have been posted at the gate so that they could maintain all fronts relating to vehicular traffic, health hazards, registration of all vehicles plying through scientifically and systematically’, the DGP said talking to the media.

    About five thousand people had so far entered into Assam by crossing over Srirampur and Sagolia check posts. Those scanned persons had come from several parts of the country as they could not come back their homes due to lockdown declared by the government, he said.

    The senior police official also entrusted the senior police official posted in Kokrajhar including the BTAD IGP Anurag Agarwal and Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roshan present at the venue for strictly monitoring the prevailing law and order situation of the border areas by their faithful discharge of duties.

    A senior official at the gate said the inbound passengers with buses, cars, passing through this route, their addresses with names, destination, phone numbers etc. have been maintained thoroughly with registration by the officials.

    “The activities of goods laden trucks and the boarder details day to day reports are also collected here by the police posted and if needed doubtful persons are sent to various quarantine centers located at various places, Mahanta said.

    ‘Police, security personnel, health workers, safai karmi, etc. have been in constant touched with the duty bound officials. Illegal intruders to the state through road, river walk, by boat, are being checked by the police, Village Defence Party(VDP) as well as the villagers’, he further reiterated.

     The DGP along with other senior official also visited nearby areas of the River Sonkosh. He also held discussion with the personnel of VDP and the village heads of the areas at Jaraguri Higher Secondary school premises and urged upon all concerned to cooperate with the government in this critical juncture.

    The senior police official also visited Kokrajhar and held discussion with high level officials of the district regarding overall law and situation of the district including security arrangement made at quarantine centre located at SAI center and Kokrajhar railway station.
