Government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of six Rabi Crops. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, in his statement made in Lok Sabha today informed that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has cleared the hike in MSP of Rabi Crops including Wheat, Chana, Masoor, Mustard, Jowar and Safflower.

The MSP of wheat has been increased by Rs. 50 and now stands at Rs. 1,975 per quintal whereas the MSP for Masoor has been hiked by Rs. 300.

Mustard’s MSP has been raised by Rs. 225 while the same for Chana has been hiked by Rs. 225.

Increase in Jowar’s MSP is by Rs. 75 while the same for Safflower has been hiked by Rs. 112 per quintal.

Mr. Tomar informed that the government has sanctioned nearly Rs. 7 lakh crore to the farmers for the government procurements in the last 6 years which is almost double the amount that was sanctioned during the UPA government in their 10 year rule.

The minister said, the hike in MSP reflects the government’s commitment to guarantee MSP and government procurement in the country.

He reiterated that the recently passed farm bills in the Parliament do not impact MSP or provisions of APMC Act in any way.

Mr. Tomar also appealed to the farmers not to fall prey to the false or misleading political tactics of the opposition parties.
