  • Action against DMK leaders in 2G scam not to affect ties: Cong

With Kanimozhi set to appear before a CBI court in the 2G spectrum case, Congress has said action against DMK leaders in the scam will have no bearing on its ties with the Dravidian party.

The party also dismissed suggestions that it was likely to succumb to ally pressure in this matter.

“There is absolutely no question of party acting under any pressure. CBI is investigating the case under the Supreme Court monitoring…we feel our ties with DMK have continued for years seeing good and bad times. I do not think the on-going investigations in the 2G issue will have any adverse impact on Congress-DMK ties,” party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters in New Delhi on Thursday.

Natarajan, who is a senior Congress leader from Tamil Nadu, at the same time insisted that Congress and DMK are separate parties “but as allies we are working with great harmony for the success of the coalition…”

43-year-old Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi has said nobody should think she is an “easy target” and asserted that she will fight the case legally.

Kanimozhi, who will appear before a CBI court on Friday in connection with the 2G case, said, “It is a very, very serious charge and I am very clear and I am very sure that we will come out of it and I will come out of it clean”.

She was replying to a question on CBI naming her as a co-conspirator in the case.

Asked whether she was prepared for the eventuality of her arrest, she said, “If that is what the legal system wants, if that is what the CBI wants then we have to wait and see. We have to fight it whatever it is. We have to fight it legally”.

“So we have to stand up and fight in the court. But lets wait and see”, the Rajya Sabha MP said.
