    Published on January 31, 2019

In Pakistan, over 90 members of hardline religious parties have been arrested from different parts of Punjab province for holding demonstrations against the Supreme Court’s decision to reject a review plea against the acquittal of Christian woman Aasia Bibi in a blasphemy case.

Punjab Police spokesperson Nabila Ghazanfar said that most arrests have been made from Lahore, Gujranwala and Ralwapindi.

Yesterday, Supreme Court rejected a review petition against its decision to acquit Aasia Bibi who was on death row for eight years on charges of blasphemy.

Bibi, a 47-year-old mother of four, who is now in protective custody, was convicted in 2010 after being accused of insulting Islam in a row with her neighbours.
