  • Black money probe requires complete involvement of Govt: SC

    Published on April 21, 2011

The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the central government to explain why its investigation is focused only on an individual in black money issue and why no other name has come out of those who have stashed money in overseas banks.

Criticising Centre’s probe, the apex court said the investigation into the issue required complete and full-fledged involvement of government.

It said the most important question was about the disclosure of source of money stashed in foreign banks which may be terror money or money coming from drug peddling.

The court also asked Solicitor General to take instructions from he government on the issue of setting up of Special Investigation Team and posted the matter for further hearing on Monday.

The court was hearing a petition filed by noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani and some former bureaucrats seeking the Court’s direction to the government to bring back black money stashed by Indian nationals in foreign banks.
