  • In Brazil, the death toll from a dam collapse in the city of Brumadinho has risen to 150. Civil defence officials said yesterday that 182 people are still listed as missing.

No one has been found alive since January 26, the day after a large reservoir containing mining waste was breached.

The search and rescue efforts remain operational, the officials said.

The reddish-brown mud that broke the dam destroyed everything in its path and has contaminated water resources used by dozens of municipalities. A top Brazilian institute warned of a possible health crisis if authorities did not help rural communities.
