  • Bring PM under Lokpal: reiterates CPM

    The CPM has reiterated its commitment for inclusion of the Prime Minister in the purview of the proposed Lokpal Institution. Speaking to reporters after the Politburo meeting in Hyderabad on Friday, party senior leader and Parliament Member Sitaram Yechury said CPM had been pursuing a law on Lokpal for the past 30 years and insisting for introducing a bill on the same in the Parliament.

    Yechury said the Politburo had held preliminary review on the outcome of the recently held elections in five states especially, West Bengal and Kerala. The Politburo’s view would be taken to the Central Committee today on the issue, he added.

    Stating that current political situation in the country and issues included corruption, black money, price rise and food security were discussed in the meeting, he said party’s plan of action on these issues would be decided by the Central Committee.

    Yechury added that the meeting also took a serious note of the physical attacks on the party cadre and opposed promulgation of ordinance to return Singur lands to farmers in West Bengal.

    Party Central Committee meetings would be held in Hyderabad for the next two days. West Bengal former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee did not attend the meetings due to health reasons.
