The Cabinet on Thursday gave its approval for amendments in the Parliament (Prevention of Disqualification) Act, 1959 by introducing of a Bill in Parliament. The amendment was necessitated following bifurcation of National Commission for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes into two independent Commissions.
This will protect the Chairpersons of the National Commission for the Scheduled Castes and National Commission for Scheduled Tribes from any disqualification for being chosen as or for being a Member of Parliament.
The cabinet also approved leasing of land measuring 520,000 sq. mtr. to the Joint Venture led by Indian Oil Corporation Limited for a period of 30 years for setting up of LNG storage and re-gasification terminal project at Ennore Port. The port is located near the North Chennai Industrial Hub. The project will help port to utilize gainfully the land and waterfront available with them.
