The Union Cabinet on Thursday gave green signal to the introduction of a Bill in the Parliament for the amendment of Mines Act, 1952. The Act provide for the health, safety and well being of persons employed in mining sector making work more humane and to provide for measures to prevent accidents and occupational hazards.

The Bill proposes to amend and consolidate the law relating to regulation of condition of work and welfare of Mines employees. The amendment will make the Act effective in the whole country including territorial waters, exclusive economic zones and other maritime zones of India. It will also define the basis of foreign Company.
