Mumbai :The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) today announced Kennevor DGK, engineering student, Saveetha School of Engineering, Chennai as the winner of the South Asia ‘Present round the World (PATW) 2013’ finals in a technical event cum award ceremony held in Mumbai. Kennevor’s winning presentation focused on the technology – Li Fi (wireless-communication systems using light as a carrier). Kennevor was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 32,000 and will now compete in the global finals to  be held in London later this year for a cash prize of £1,000 (App. Rs. 80,000/-).Jaydeep Deshpande, student of PVG’s College of Engineering and Technology, Pune came second. He presented on the topic Hybrid Wind-Wave Energy Converter.

The South Asia Finals of this year’s PATW – a presentation competition for students and young professionals aged 18 -26 years, organized by the IET witnessed engineers from Sri Lanka and India vying for the top honours. The thrust of the competition was more on the presentation skills of the participants than technical content. The young engineers made a 10-Minute presentation on various topics in front of distinguished jury members, representing the industry and academia and were judged on their presentation skills and technical content.

On the sidelines of the occasion Shekhar Sanyal, Country Head and Director, IET India said “Engineeringstudents have predominantly focused on the development of technical skills not realising the importance of soft skills. In today’s highly competitive environment, students should focus more on enhancing their soft skills to remain relevant. The PATW is a unique platform for young professionals to showcase their technical and presentation skills, thereby contributing to their holistic development.”

The IET hosts a series of other events such as lectures, seminars, conferences and contests to introduce engineers to the future of science and technology. The professional body, one of the largest in the world, works to promote the positive role of science, engineering and technology amongst the engineering community.
