  • Coronavirus outbreak may recede in about 10 days: Chinese respiratory expert

    The new coronavirus outbreak that has gripped China and other countries resulting in 132 deaths may recede in about 10 days, renowned Chinese respiratory expert and head of Chinese scientists team Zhong Nanshan said.

    Mr. Nanshan said that a quarantine period of 10 days to two weeks is very effective, so there will not be a large-scale infection as people travel back from their holidays, however, he said that preventive measures need to kept tight.

    As of now, 6073 cases have been confirmed in China and more than 65 abroad in 14 countries. Death toll has jumped to 132. In total, 103 patients have been released from hospitals after they recovered from the infection and determined safe by physicians.

    AIR Correspondent reports that Chinese researchers have come up with anti-body test papers and found three kinds of medicines that might be effective in curbing coronavirus. These are going through the relevant procedures for approval. Australian scientists have also developed a lab-grown version of virus sample, grown from a patient, which will be used to generate an antibody test, the first recreation outside China, in a breakthrough that could help combat the global spread of the virus.

    Meanwhile Beijing’s Xiaotangshan Hospital, which was built in seven days back in 2003 to treat SARS patients, is going to reopen after 17 years as confirmed cases in Beijing has reached to 102. Wuhan’s two makeshift hospitals are under construction on the lines of this hospital.
