  • DPRK’s WPK Conference Held, Kim Jong Il Attended

    The Conference of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) was held in Pyongyang on Tuesday, KCNA, the official news agency of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), reported on Wednesday.

    According to the KCNA, Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the WPK and chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK, attended the conference. The KCNA didn’t say whether Kim made any speech at the conference.

    Kim Yong Nam, a member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and also president of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK, gave the opening address and closing address.

    Choe Yong Rim, another member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and also premier of the Cabinet of the DPRK, chaired the conference.

    The conference made decisions on three main agenda items, including the reelection of Kim Jong Il as general secretary of the WPK, the revision of the WPK Charter and the election of the new central leadership of the WPK.

    All the three proposals were fully supported and approved at the conference, said the KCNA.
