  • Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia addresses students at Great Lakes Institute of Management

    Chennai : Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission addressed students of Great Lakes Institute of Management at the USI Auditorium in Delhi as a part of the Institute’s Thought Leadership Lecture Series, a series where the students get to learn from and  Montek Singh_GLIMinteract with Global Thought Leaders.

    Attended by the GEMBA (Global Energy Executive MBA, offered in partnership with the Bauer College of Business, University of Houston) participants and students from Great Lakes, Gurgaon’s two year Energy management and one year fast-track MBA batches, the session began with a welcome address by Dr. Bala V Balachandran, Founder and Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management.

    Dr. Bala extended a warm and hearty welcome to Dr. Ahluwalia and spoke of their association since 1991 when they worked together to develop Management Education in India and then later when Dr. Ahluwalia addressed Great Lakes students in Chennai.  Dr. Bala said, “Montek has played an important role in charting India’s journey to Economic prosperity and now, the time is ripe to plan India’s Energy Independence.”

    Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia’stalk provided a holistic view of energy planning to the students and covered energy departments in the central and state government, challenges faced by the government in preparing the energy policy, the energy section of the 12th plan document, global trends and energy pricing in India.

    Dr. Ahluwalia also expressed his delight at Great Lakes’ phenomenal growth since its inception in 2004 and lauded the institute’s decision to focus on growing sectors like Energy, Analytics etc. bysaying, “The country needs to develop its base of specialists with core domain knowledge, and I am glad that Great Lakes is doing a great job of generating a branch of well-trained and qualified specialists through its course offerings.”
