Two earthquakes in less than two hours struck north-eastern Spain killing at least ten people. The quake with a magnitude of 5.2 was the most serious to hit Spain in about 50 years.

Several buildings were damaged near the town of Lorca. The centre of the town has been seriously damaged. A regional Government official said the bell tower of a church came crashing down the ground.
