    Published on April 23, 2014

Bangalore : WISE (the World Innovation Summit for Education) has today revealed the 15 projects from around the world chosen as the 2014 WISE Awards Finalists.  This includes Educate Girls project from India.

This project has been selected from around the globe on the basis that it represents inspiring and visionary work. The WISE Awards were inaugurated by Qatar Foundation in 2009 under the patronage of its Chairperson, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, to recognise and celebrate the most unique and creative approaches to solving the real-world obstacles to education.

Considering gender disparity is a significant barrier in the education process in Rajasthan, Educate Girl project is established at a grass root level to provide quality education for all girls by mobilizing and leveraging public, private, and community resources to improve access to education and school quality.

H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, PhD, Chairman of WISE and Chairman of the WISE Awards Jury said:  “This year’s WISE Awards Finalists represent some of the most innovative and groundbreaking projects currently changing lives around the world. They originate in many countries and they are breaking down barriers to education in many areas. The sustainable, replicable solutions created by these educational projects can help improve access, quality and relevance the world over.”

The WISE Awards Finalist projects, evaluated by a Pre-Jury of internationally recognized education experts, demonstrated innovative thinking and a concrete impact on communities and societies, as well as a potential to be replicated in other contexts and regions.

Safeena Husain, Founder and CEO, Foundation to Educate Girls Globally said: “We are delighted to know of the acknowledgment for our project, Educate Girls as being named one of the 2014 WISE Awards Finalists and being recognized for demonstrating innovative thinking and having a real impact on our community. It is our constant endeavor to work towards providing easy access to education at the grassroots level. This recognition encourages us to be working towards our goal of improving girls’ enrollment in schools through constant empowerment of the community they live in.”

The six winning projects will be announced in September and celebrated at the sixth World Innovation Summit for Education, November 4-6, 2014, in Doha, Qatar. In addition to publicity and networking opportunities, each will receive $20,000 (US).
