    Published on January 22, 2012

Electioneering is in full swing in Punjab, Manipur and Uttarkhand for next week’s Assembly polls.

Before 2002, Manipur was a victim of political instability but the situation began to change after Ibobi Singh came to power in 2002.

After successfully completing two terms, Ibobi Singh, who is on hatrick, is again seeking votes on the basis of developmental works done by him in the state.

But this time, the entire opposition has joined hands against Congress by forming People’s Democratic Front (PDF).

PDF is fighting in plains plains and Naga People’s Front is fighting in hills against Congress, which has ruled the state for over a decade.

Campaigning for Congress, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has asked the electorate to vote for the party.

Addressing a rally at Rapar in Punjab, she accused the ruling Akali Dal combine in Punjab of neglecting development work in last five years.

Earlier, Shiromani Akali Dal expressed its commitment to infrastructure development and compulsory IT education for the people of Punjab.

In its poll manifesto released in Ludhiana on Sunday, the party has promised laptops to higher secondary students in the state.

Speaking to reporters in Chandigarh, BJP leader Uma Bharati said development is her party’s main agenda. She expressed the hope that the SAD-BJP combine would come back to power in the state.

Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi questions SAD-BJP government’s promises on IT in education in Punjab. Talking to mediapersons, he asked the state government what it had done in this sector during its rule for last five years.

BSP Chief and UP Chief Minister campaigned in Punjab on Sunday. Addressing a poll in Muktasar, she said the party is contesting on its own in the state.  She said, her party has given tickets to only those who have a clean image.

Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav has called upon the electorate in Uttar Pradesh to ensure the defeat of Mayawati in the forthcoming polls.

Addressing a poll rally in Deoria in the State, he accused the present state government of targeting his party workers.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit conducted several public rallies in Dehradun on Sunday and urged the people of Uttrakhand to vote Congress to power in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Addressing mediapersons, she flayed the BJP government in the state for not having done anything to provide even basic infrastructure like schools and roads or for promoting tourism.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Sunday said that if voted to power, BJP will remove corruption from Uttar Pradesh.

He also expressed confidence that BJP will win the assembly election with clear majority in the state.
