Chennai -EMC, DTE,Govt. of Tamil Nadu and ICTACT today announced that they will be training teachers from over 350 polytechnics in Tamil Nadu on the newly introduced Information storage management courses in Polytechnic institutes. The syllabus for Diploma in Computer Engineering, Computer Networking Engineering and Information Technology sees an inclusion of the new courses under the L Scheme Syllabus for Government, Government Aided and Self-financing polytechnic colleges.

The faculty training will be completed over a period of 2 months and is expected to benefit around 20000 students in 480+ Polytechnic colleges in the state. EMC will provide the Technical expertise for the training and the training programme will be implemented at zero cost by EMC, ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu and DOTE, Govt. of Tamil Nadu. The aim of this initiative is to impart quality ICT education to students, make them industry-ready and help them compete effectively in a challenging global ICT environment.

Elaborating on Tamil Nadu government’s efforts to increase employment in the state, Thiru. Kumar Jayant IAS, Commissioner of Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, said,  “With over 1000 engineering and Polytechnic colleges and over four lakh engineering and polytechnic students, the state of Tamil Nadu is contributing towardscreating ICT workforce in a big way.  This initiative isa step further towards bridging the skill gap and providing a competitive edge to ICT students in Tamil Nadu.”

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Krishna Kant, Head, EMC Academic Alliance – South Asia & Russia said, “The Digital Universe in India is expected to grow from 127 Exabytes to 2.9 Zettabytes from 2012 to 2020, doubling every two years, owing to the new trends of social, mobile, cloud and analytics. Due to this digital information explosion, storage, management and protection of data becomeextremely important. The new courses will help students to build the foundation skills needed for efficient information storage management.”

Krishna Kant further added, “Under EMC Academic Alliance, it has been our constant endeavor to help prepare students for successful careers in a transforming
IT industry, which is in line with the Tamil Nadu government’s vision of creating an industry-ready and employable talent-pool in the state.”

Also speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sivakumar, CEO of ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu, said, “It is important for teachers across sectors to acquire new skills and keep themselves abreast with the new developments in their industry. This joint initiative between EMC and Tamil Nadu government is a great effort towards enabling this.”

Sivakumar further added, “The inclusion of ISM along with other new courses in the syllabus is a timely initiative by the Government of Tamil Nadu.”
