  • Environment Ministry directs action against Lavasa

    Environment Ministry has said, part of constructions of the LAVAS hill project in Pune has been undertaken without green clearence. It has asked Maharashtra Government to take necessary action for violation of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986 and inform about it soon.

    In a letter to the Maharashtra Government the Union Ministry said, the violation came to light during an appraisal of green clearance request for the controversial project to develop 2000 hectares Hill Station Township. It was found that constructions and developments in 681 hectare area was in progress without obtaining prior environmental clearance. The ministry said these are violations of the Act and the state Government should initiate necessary action.

    Asked about the fate of the project, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said the minstry will present its position in the High Court on Wednesday next week.
