Five persons were killed and another was injured when a house was flattened in a cloudburst in Moldhar village of Tehri district in the wee hours of Friday.

The cloudburst struck around 0200 hours when the people were sleeping, official sources said.

All the bodies have been recovered from the debris of the house, they said, adding, the injured has been admitted to a nearby hospital in Thatyur area.

It was not immediately known whether all the victims belonged to a single family.

A team of senior police and administrative officers have rushed to the spot to supervise the search and rescue operation.
Uttarakhand Governor Margaret Alva and Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank have expressed grief over the incident.

Nishank has directed administrative officials to make an assessment of the damage in the area.

A relief of Rs one lakh has also been announced for the victims.
