  • For a cleaner city, better neighbourhood: ITM University student volunteers conduct cleanliness drive in Gurgaon

    Gurgaon : While most of us grumble about the lack of cleanliness and hygiene in our city or the absence of civic sense, how many of us take a lead to change the way things are? Student ITM University studentvolunteers of ITM University Gurgaon today stepped out of the campus to make a difference in their neighborhood.

    Yukti, a student’s initiative at ITM University, aims at bringing the faculty and students together to make life better for the neglected and the underprivileged, regardless of caste, colour, religion or status.

    The student-volunteers launched a cleanliness drive under which they identified areas around their University campus that were littered with garbage and headed in small groups to clean up the designated areas, filthiest of all.

    The campaign initiated under the Jagriti Cell of Yukti aims not only at cleaning up the city but also spread awareness amongst the students as well as campus neighborhood on the need for a healthy environment. It also intends to improve the appearance of the city.

    The volunteer students enthusiastically went around the identified areas equipped with brooms and dustbins and picked up every bit of garbage littered in the area for over two hours.

    At the end of the programme, the volunteers ensured that all the garbage they had collected was disposed in proper municipality dustbins. During they cleanliness drive, the students also engaged curious onlookers and citizens and spoke to ITM University student 2them of the need to keep their city clean.

    The campaign held under the Jagriti Cell of Yukti drove home a strong point that the city belonged to its residents and everybody needed to share the responsibility of keeping it clean.

    “As an educational institution of higher learning, we are not simply focused to academics but also grooming responsible citizens for our country who possess good social and civic values. We are proud that our students not only recognize their duties as responsible citizens but put up compelling contribution by setting personal example”, said ITMU Vice Chancellor Professor Prem Vrat.
