Gaza militants on Wednesday night fired a homemade rocket at southern Israel, no casualties were reported, Israeli Radio said.

An Israeli army spokesman told the radio that a homemade rocket landed at the surrounding of the Ashkol town in southern Israel. No damages or casualties were reported.

The Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), loyal to the Islamic Hamas movement that rules the Gaza Strip, said in a leaflet emailed to reporters that its militants fired a rocket from northern Gaza at southern Israel.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Israeli army killed a Palestinian and wounded another one near the borders between northern Gaza Strip and Israel, sources in the deposed Hamas government said.

Ambulances and rescue teams were not able to reach the area as it needs coordination in advance with the Israeli army, the sources said.

The Israeli army had established a 300-meter-wide buffer zone on its borders with the Gaza Strip. Israeli soldiers at the borders open fire at any Palestinian trying to approach the area.

The Israeli army spokesman said earlier on Wednesday afternoon that two homemade rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip and landed near Ashkol in southern Israel. No injuries were reported.

The PRC also claimed responsibility for the attack.

On Tuesday night, Israeli warplanes struck two targets that belong to the Hamas movement’s armed wing al-Qassam Brigades in southern and central Gaza Strip. One Palestinian was lightly wounded, according to medical resources.
