Ahmedabad :  In the western part of India, out of the hundreds of patients with liver failure, a very minute number of people receive a liver transplant.  Only a handful of liver transplant cases are reported in Gujarat every year, whereas around 1100 liver global-hospitalstransplants are done in a year mainly in the North and South India, which accounts for over 90% of these transplants. Western India is relatively underserved in terms of liver transplantation services and comprehensive facilities rather than have patients travel to Hyderabad, internationally trained doctors from Global Hospitals, Mumbai will be available at Ahmedabad for surgeries. This is one of the first times in India, that teams are flown to locations in order to provide skilled advice.

Lack of dedicated facilities for liver transplant is one of the main reasons why people opt to go to South or North India for a liver transplant surgery. The Global Hospitals Group with experience and expertise of performing successfully over 600 Liver transplants at its world class hospitals at Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai, recently launched their Institute of Liver Diseases, HPB Surgery & Transplantation at its state of the art Global Hospitals Mumbai. To cater to the patients from Gujarat, internationally renowned experts from Global Hospitals Mumbai will provide consultation to patients at the Global Hospitals Information & Telemedicine Centre, Ahmedabad.

Emphasising the importance of better facilities Dr. Samir Shah, HOD – Hepatology Director – Global Hospitals Mumbai said, “At Global Hospital providing highest possible quality of care and service on a consistent basis and making a difference to the lives of the patients who visit us. Dr. Hemant Vadeyar, HPB and Liver transplant surgeon, and Dr. Vaishali Salao – Liver Intensivist – Global Hospitals, Mumbai explained the need for advanced HPB Surgery and seriously ill liver patients to be managed by a dedicated team with a focus on dealing such complex liver patients.

Global Hospitals was one of the very first to start liver transplant progams in India and is the only Group which has sustained the program since 2003 and has over a decade of experience, including more than 600 liver transplants for both adult and paediatric.
