  • NEW BEDFORD MA: Global Learning Charter Public School (GLCPS), a tuition-free public charter school that currently services 500 students in grades 5-12, recently participated in Bristol Community College’s World Portuguese Language Day virtual celebration.

    This is the fourth year the GLCPS students have participated in the event with Bristol Community College. Fifteen students from Mrs. Mia Correia’s Portuguese language class participated in the presentation.

    The event featured keynote presenter Dr. Helena Santos Martins, an active member of the Luso-American community, in addition to a concert by Karina Gomes and her band.  Bristol Community College’s World Portuguese Language Day is sponsored in part by the Camões Institute, Consulate of Portugal in New Bedford, FLAD, Arte Institute, Consulate Generate of Brazil in Boston, Consulate General of Cabo Verde in Boston and the Bristol Community College Portuguese Club. 

    “We are grateful to Bristol Community College for offering this opportunity to our students,” said Dr. Stephen Furtado, Executive Director of GLCPS. “And we congratulate our students on their hard work and the wonderful presentation. We are fortunate to have the support and relationships with the organizations and businesses within our community.”

    GLCPS is currently undertaking an $8 million capital campaign to fund the renovation of a historic building located at 106 Bullard Street in New Bedford creating “One School, One Campus.
