  • Govt’s top agenda to curb corruption: PM

    Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that the government is moving forward expeditiously on a comprehensive agenda to curb corruption.

    Addressing a biennial conference of the CBI in New Delhi today, Dr Singh said the Lokpal is at the top of Government’s agenda. He added that a committee under a retired Supreme Court Judge will be set up to review cases pending trial for more than 10 years.

    The Prime minister said the agitation on Lokpal has brought the issue of cleaning up of our public life right at the top of national priorities.
    Dr Singh also said the government will bring a public procurement Bill very soon in Parliament to bring more transparency in government procurement.

    He said the UPA government has brought the path breaking RTI Act which provided a potential tool in ensuring transparency and accountability.

    The Prime minister said the country stands at the crossroads as far reaching changes are taking place to deal with the menace of corruption.

    Speaking on the occasion, CBI director, A P Singh pitched for a multi-dimensional approach to tackle corruption.
