Nearly half of civil fights in Paris airports will be canceled due to impact of general strike on Tuesday, the French Civil Aviation Authorities said Monday in a statement.

Some 30 percent of flights in Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport will be affected whereas 50 percent in Paris Orly airport would be canceled, the authority said.

Air France confirmed the difficulties sparked by employees’ strike, saying short-haul and medium-haul flights in France and Europe will be reduced but assured the long-haul won’t be affected much.

In response to the public traffic unions’ call of open-ended strike, a number of railway workers started their walk-out from Monday night, causing paralysation on several international and domestic routes.

The Paris metro is expecting considerable hit as the workers started the strike also on late Monday. Teachers and postal workers are expected to join the strike of transport workers.

Furthermore, the unions have called for a further day of demonstration across the country on Saturday.

So far, the Senate House reviewing the controversial pension reform bill has approved with narrow majority two pillar articles of the bill, which are prolonging legal retirement age to 62 in 2018 and raise minimum age to full pension disregarding contribution period from 65 to 67.

French senior government official Raymond Soubie said the bill would pass its final legal hurdle in late October despite the increasing protest from opposition parties and labor unions.
