  • HC asks CBI to speed up probe in Bhanwari Devi case

    Published on November 14, 2011

Slamming the CBI for the slow pace of investigation in the Bhanwari Devi case, the Rajasthan High Court on Monday gave the investigating agency 10 days to submit its progress report in the mater.

Pointing out to the Arushi Talwar case in Noida, the division bench of the court in Jodhpur comprising Govind Mathur and N K Jain said the “credibility of the agency was at stake and it should speed up the investigation”.

The CBI had sought four weeks time to submit its investigation report but the court gave 10 days time.

Observing that the investigation in the matter was slow, the court asked the agency to expedite the investigation.

Meanwhile, a CD purportedly showing former minister Mahipal Maderna and nurse Bhanwari Devi, which was shown on a news channel, was sent to the high court registrar by the channel.

The court said the CD was received by post and asked the CBI to take it if it would be useful in the investigation.

The next hearing in the case will be on 24th November.

The CBI has questioned Maderna, who was removed from Cabinet by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on 16th October after his name cropped up in the case.
