    Published on March 5, 2020

Hong Kong airlines Cathay Pacific has been fined by Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) of Britain, over a huge data leak of more than 90 lakh customers including passport numbers and credit card details.

The Biritish privacy watchdog said in a statement yesterday that between October 2014 and May 2019, a lack of security measures on the Hong Kong carrier’s computer systems led to a massive data breach involving 94 lakh customers around the world – including more than a lakh from the UK.

The Hong Kong-based airline had admitted in October 2018  that about 8.6 lakh passport numbers, 2.45 lakh Hong Kong ID card numbers, 403 expired credit card numbers and 27 credit card numbers with no CVV were accessed.

Other compromised passenger data included nationalities, dates of birth, phone numbers, emails, and physical addresses
