In the continuous attempt to corner Pakistan over cross border terrorism, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar today again summoned Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit and handed over proof of cross border origins of recent Uri terror attack.

During the meeting, Mr. Jaishankar told him that the preliminary interrogation reveals that one of the slain attackers is the resident of Muzaffarabad besides giving details of Pakistan-based handlers.

He also informed that the two guides who helped the infiltrators were apprehended by locals and are now in Indian custody. They are also from Muzaffarabad.

Mr. Basit was conveyed that on 23rd of this month, another Pakistani national was apprehended in Molu sector opposite Pakistan’s Sialkot sector and he has confessed to undergoing training with the terrorist group LeT and donating funds to their front organization.

Mr. Jaishankar said India is willing to provide the Pakistan High Commission consular access to three individuals apprehended in connection with attacks.

Urging Pakistan to take seriously its commitment not to allow terrorist attacks against India from its soil and territory under its control, the Secretary said these apprehensions and subsequent interrogation underline the cross-border infiltration. He asserted that continuing cross-border terrorist attacks are unacceptable.

New Delhi has already offered to provide fingerprints and DNA samples of terrorists killed in Uri and Poonch to Pakistan, if that country wished to investigate these cross-border attacks.

This was the second time in a week when Pakistan High Commissioner was issued a demarche over the issue after Uri attack.

It came a day after India’s decision to maximize usage of its share available under Indus water treaty and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s appeal in UN General Assembly to isolate Pakistan for its support to terrorism.
