  • Indonesia Sends Protest Note to Malaysia OverTerritory Breaching

    Indonesia Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa said on Wednesday that the government has sent a diplomatic note to Malaysian government over the country’s territory breaching conducted by Malaysian apparatus and the recent arrest against three Indonesian officials.

    Marty said that through the diplomatic note sent to Malaysian embassy here on Wednesday, Indonesia protests the violations committed by Malaysian apparatus for illegally entered Indonesia’s territory and arresting three Indonesian officials who were in the middle of their maritime and fishing patrol.

    The protesting note was sent to the Malaysian embassy a few moments after the foreign affairs ministry learned the facts from the results of investigation carried out by Indonesian navy that the violations were truly occurred in the country’s territory.

    “We regretted and condemned the violations as it is against the existing international laws. Since the beginning we have learned that Malaysia’s act cannot be justified. We also cannot accept the Malaysian apparatus’ measures implemented against those three Indonesian officials,” Marty said in his ministry’s premises.

    Marty said that the foreign affairs ministry preferred to wait for the results of investigation over the incident’s exact location before issuing official response regarding the incident.

    The incident took place on the Tanjung Barikat waters, Bintan, on Friday, last week.

    At that time, three officials of the maritime and fishery ministry were arrested by the Malaysian sea patrol as a response over Indonesia’s action in apprehending seven Malaysian fishermen who entered the Indonesian waters.
