  • IPL Qualifier: Ruturaj Gaikwad becomes third CSK batsman to hit 600 runs in a season

    Published on October 14, 2021

Chennai Super Kings batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has become the third batter to score 600 runs in a single Indian Premier League season in the team’s history. Ruturaj joined the ranks of players like Michael Hussey and Ambati Rayundu, as the three-time champions (CSK) booked a spot in the 2021 IPL final after beating the Delhi Capitals during the qualifiers. The Super Kings will play the finals on Friday and putters can check out cricket online betting platforms to wager on the game ahead of the men’s T20 World Cup starting on Sunday.

The CSK batter smashed 50-ball 7, including six and five fours as the team chased down a total of 173 over the Delhi Capitals with four wickets and two balls to spare. During the match, MS Dhoni (18 not off six balls) and Robin Uthappa (63 off 44 balls) also played key knocks.

Gaikwad registered 70, which helped him pass the 600-run mark during the 2021 IPL season. That made him the second batter to achieve such a feat this season after Captain KL Rahul of Punjab Kings. He is also the third batter in CSK’s history after Ambati Rayundu recorded 602 runs in 2018 and Michael Hussey recorded 733 runs in 2013.

KL Rahul is the current holder of the Orange Cap after recording 626 runs, although he has no chance of adding to his tally since the Punjab Kings have no more games to play this season. Gaikwad is ranking second with his 603 runs and with CSK set to play in the IPL final, he has a chance to outrank Rahul.

The Delhi Capitals batsman Shikhar Dhawan is ranking third with 551 runs followed closely by CSK’s Faf du Plessis who has 547 runs. Bangalore Glem Maxwell closes the top five list with 498 runs.

According to Gaikwad, the secret to succeeding is going through normal routines and whatever you’ve been following in the tournament and trying to remain neutral. For Gaikwad, each game starts from zero, so it’s crucial to start the match fresh and be ready for the challenge. The CSK batter like planning for 2-3 overs in every game thinks of the likely bowler and who is the best player to target.

Gaikwad also believes you must be crystal clear while going through the process, taking over without pressuring yourself. A player also needs to make sure that the needed rate doesn’t go too high and take it deep.

Prithvi Shaw also set another record after scoring the first half-century for the Delhi Capitals during the second leg of the 2021 IPL season. Shaw recorded 60 soon after Rishabh Pant hit 51 not out. That was the Delhi Capitals’ second half-century in UAE. The team will be taking on the Kolkata Knight Riders today (13th October), hoping to book a spot in the finals against the Chennai Super Kings on Friday. This might be the second year in a row that DC reaches the finals if they win, after being perennial underachievers for over a decade until they reach the final round last year.
