  • Japan: Highly radio active iodine found in sea

    Published on March 26, 2011

Japanese officials say, highly radio active iodine has been found in the sea, 300 metres of the Fukushima Nuclear Plant which was damaged in this month’s earthquake and tsunami. The level of radio activity was more than a thousand times higher than the safety limit. A report from Tokyo says, the levels of radiation found in the sea near the plant are more than eight times higher than those found in the same area last week. A Nuclear Agency says, no one is living on that part of the coastline and the radio active element found will no longer be a risk after eight days. But this is a concern because they cannot be sure where the leak is coming from. It is possible the radiation is seeping from the damaged reactors into the ground water.
