    Published on February 28, 2013

Sri Lankan Army has rejected the report by Human Rights Watch released this Tuesday in which it was alleged that the army had used torture and rape as a weapon during the last phase of war against the LTTE.

Military spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya told All India Radio that all information in the report are completely false, and that no detention centers are being maintained by the Sri Lankan Army.

Rebutting the charges made in the report, Brigadier Ruwan said that though terrorists are arrested by the Army, they are produced to courts through the police.

He said that all the charges of violation of human rights that were made against the army-men were investigated as per the procedure laid down by law.

He added that the army is prepared to investigate any legitimate complaint by any individual.
