  • LeT module planned to attack crowded localities: Chidambaram

    New Delhi : Home Minister P Chidambaram has said the Lashkar-e-Taiba,LeT sponsored terror module busted in New Delhi on Wednesday had planned to attack a crowded localities with bombs. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, he, however, ruled out that there was any VVIP on their target. He added that more details will emerge after further questioning.

    Earlier in the day, Delhi Police arrested two suspected terrorists of LeT.

    Mr. Chidambaram lauded the work of central agencies and police forces of three states for timely busting the module. He said there may be some more arrests in this connection. The Home Minister said the suspected terrorists will be produced before courts in Delhi and other respective States.

    Mr. Chidambaram expressed hope that a way forward will be found about the National Counter Terrorism Center, NCTC after the meeting of Chief Secretaries, Director Generals of Police and Anti Terrorist Squads convened by the Home Secretary.

    On the issue of filing FIRs against four NGOs, the Home Minister said these NGOs have allegedly used the funds for activities other than the purpose for which they had obtained it. Mr. Chidambaram said, the CBI has been directed to register cases against two of them while Tamil Nadu state police will register cases against the rest of the two. In reply to another question, Mr. Chidambaram said a German national was deported yesterday because he was associated with activities not consistent with his tourist visa.

    Earlier, presenting his ministry’s monthly report card, the Home Minister said government has sanctioned more than 24 crore rupees for installation of CCTV surveillance systems at 6 district courts in Delhi. He said over 1 crore rupees have been sanctioned to All India Radio for launching a publicity campaign in Left wing extremism States.
