In national capital Delhi, the maximum temperature rose slightly to settle at 35.7 deg C, three notches above the normal level for this time of the year, while the minimum was recorded at 25.4 deg C, down by a degree from the usual, the India Meteorological Department said.

The city received a total rainfall of 9.9 mm in the past 24 hours with a maximum humidity of 93 per cent.

In Punjab, eight people, including a woman, were killed in rain-related incidents at different places in Ludhiana, officials said.

Patiala was pounded by 22.9 mm of rainfall followed by 4.3 mm at Chandigarh and 2.6 mm at Rohtak, the Met office said.

Three persons died in heavy downpours in Uttar Pradesh even as rivers Ganga, Sharda and Ghagra continued to flow above the danger mark at several places.

While two persons drowned in Ghazipur, one died due to wall collapse in Kanpur, police said.

Ganga was rising during its course from Fafamau (Allahabad) to Ghazipur and Ballia, where it was flowing above the red mark.

Ghagra was flowing dangerously at Elgin Bridge (Barabanki) and Ayodhya, a Central Water Commission report said.

Meanwhile, Regional Meteorological Centre sources in Kolkata said the low pressure area, which caused heavy to very heavy rains for a week in the state, moved to Jharkhand in the afternoon.
