  • Narayana Multispeciality Hospital Witnesses Increase In Diabetic Patients

    Hyderabad : On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, Narayana Multispeciality Hospital Hyderabad has introduced a free screening and consultation for diabetes. The screening camp is a step towards emphasis on early diagnosis and On the eve of World Diabetes Day, NH adorns the colour Blueregular screening for blood sugar levels as many people are unaware that they might have diabetes.

    “Being home to around 50 million Diabetics, India is emerging as the ‘Diabetes Capital’ of the world. In Hyderabad, the number of Diabetic patients’ is estimated at 16.6 percent followed by Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai. Despite this grave situation, the awareness level for this disease is very low”, said Sudhaker Jadhav, Facility Director, Narayana Multispeciality Hospitals, Jeedimetla Hyderabad.

    According to the International Diabetes Foundation, India has more diabetic patients than any other country in the world. The disease affects more than 50 million Indians – 7.1% of the nation’s adults – and kills about 1 million Indians in a year. Shockingly, the average age on onset of this ailment is 34 years. The high incidence is attributed to a combination of genetic susceptibility plus adoption of a high-calorie, low-activity lifestyle by India’s growing middle class. Also, Diabetes coupled with Hypertension will intensify its severity in the most productive time of life that is between 35 to 50 years.

    Speaking on this disease, Dr G J D Rao, Senior Physician and Diabetologist, said, “Diabetes is among the most common forms of non-communicable diseases worldwide and the fourth leading cause of death in the developed world.”

    As a symbolic representation of this campaign, the hospital building will also be lit up in blue every evening for a week.
